Abstract :
The author describes the auxiliary power controls on the Nelson River high-voltage DC (HVDC) scheme. He identifies the unique operating problems of the AC systems to which the Nelson River HVDC scheme feeds and shows how auxiliary power controls are utilized to substantially improve the integrated system performance. The fast control feature of the HVDC link can be utilized to enhance the operation of an integrated AC/DC power system
