Abstract :
The authors report on the development of a laboratory model of an experimental variable-speed DC motor drive system using a microcomputer-based controller. The DC motor drive system consists of a small DC shunt motor. A torque measuring system has also been incorporated. A microcomputer proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) controller controls the speed of the motor with interactive display control facilities. All the control parameters can be set and varied with the keyboard in real time without disturbing the smooth running of the motor. The idea is to acquaint graduate students with the real-time control environment
