Abstract :
The effects of fading in mobile radio channels can be mitigated using space diversity techniques. One diversity scheme which is applicable to multiple transmit and receive antennas is maximum ratio transmission (MRT). Here, it is shown that a certain constraint on the MRT receiver combining weights results in performance degradation. A new transmit and receive diversity scheme, maximum ratio transmission and combining (MRTC), is proposed which uses optimum transmit and receive weights so as to maximise the output signal-to-noise ratio. Performance results show that MRTC can offer significant gains over MRT
