Abstract :
Gain spectrum and signal/noise ratio excursion assessment for a new type of fibre amplifier called a `hybrid amplifier´ has been performed through a circulating loop experiment. A wide four-wavelength multiplex has been transmitted through up to 10 amplifiers with little degradation in the channel power difference and signal/noise ratio. This allows transmission at several gigabits per second per channel to be performed
