Abstract :
Laser diode (LD) recording using magneto-optic films with an attached reflective film was investigated. It was found that recording sensitivity improves as media thickness decreases, suggesting that the sensitivity is determined by the reflective film optical absorption and the thermal capacity of reflective film and media combined. It was concluded that LD recording is possible using sputter garnet film with its excellent opto-magnetic characteristics and stability and has now become realistic.
