Abstract
Features of control education in Germany are presented. The curricula of engineering education are strictly regulated by guidelines which, for example, prescribe compulsory courses of informatics, measurement techniques, fundamentals of control theory, and others, for most engineering studies. Many departments provide the possibility to specialize in control engineering and automation. However, essential fields of engineering may not be disregarded. There is no equivalent of the bachelor´s degree, but all students graduate as Diplomingenieur, corresponding to the master´s degree. About 20% of graduate control engineers stay with the university to write a doctoral thesis. Contrary to other countries, they are not called Ph.D. students but are full scientific staff members. Research, intensive academia-industry relations, and student exchange programs are important contributions to education
