Abstract
It is generally accepted that dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) is one of the most effective techniques in saving energy consumption. This work addresses an important DVS problem, which is the transition energy-aware voltage assignment (TE-VA) problem. Given a schedule of tasks, the TE-VA problem is to determine the voltages to be applied to the tasks, so that the total energy consumption including the transition energy is minimized. Our work has two contributions: 1) we claim that the TE-VA problem for a single task is optimally solvable in polynomial time; 2) We propose a technique for solving the TE-VA problem for multiple tasks by translating the TE-VA problem into the transition interval allotment problem
