Abstract :
Operation of a diode-pumped continuous-wave thulium-doped fibre laser on the 3H4-3H6 transition at equivalent to 1.97 mu m is reported. The absorbed pump power at threshold for a multimode fibre with 40 mu m core diameter was measured to be equivalent to 20 mW.
