Abstract
A model describing the excitation of UHF signals by current pulses in a waveguide is developed using dyadic Green´s functions. This model relates to UHF signals used for the detection of partial discharge (PD) caused by defects in gas-insulated substations (GIS). Application of the theory is demonstrated by comparison with experimental results for a cavity excited by a PD source. A technique for the injection of calibrated current pulses for PD simulation is also presented
