Abstract
A 4.6 GHz voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) was designed and fabricated using 0.25 μm CMOS technology. A careful circuit design based on a trade-off between frequency-tuning range and phase-noise characteristics, realised both a sufficient frequency-tuning range of 230 MHz and a low phase-noise characteristic of -118.1 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. This phase-noise characteristic is superior to previously reported VCOs
