Abstract :
A simple method which can directly measure the zero dispersion wavelength of an entire optical amplifier transmission system is reported. It is based on dispersion induced phase to amplitude modulation conversion in an optical fibre. The experimental and theoretical results agree for a 2000 km transmission system, and the standard deviation of measured zero dispersion wavelengths is only 0.053 nm
