Abstract :
Manufacturing batches of product presents particular problems to the automation engineer, however, following some basic design principles can result in robust and flexible batch automation systems. The ISA (originally the Instrument Society of America, now the International Society for Measurement and Control) has developed batch control standards (ISA 88 and 95) covering models, terminology, and implementation languages and data transfers. However, these are generic and open to considerable interpretation and preference.
