Abstract :
The growing worldwide interest in exploiting programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) in telecommunication applications and systems has established the need for a prototyping environment. This environment comprises various computer aided software and hardware tools to meet the requirements of the development process, including specification, algorithm simulation, analysis, implementation and verification. The article discusses the issues concerning a prototyping process and the need for support tools for developing DSP applications. It is followed by an overview of existing tools and techniques. An integrated signal processing application development environment (SPADE) is then described.<>
