Abstract
Understanding electrical effects of interconnects is increasingly important in designing data-storage devices, including hard disk drives. Data rates and interconnect design dictate that certain of the interconnects should be modeled as lossy transmission lines. However, although reliable closed-form lossy-line models exist for the frequency domain, they do not for the time domain. A simple numerical approach for time-domain modeling of lossy lines is provided and demonstrated. The method, based on the generalized method of characteristics, is easily implemented and executes quickly
