Abstract :
This article discusses tsunami early warning systems. Firstly, wave detection sensors and their connection to a satellite communication system are examined. This is followed by an outline of satellite radar remote detection of the spread of the tsunami waves. The progress being made towards the installation of various permanent warning systems is describes. Communication systems and public awareness initiatives are also considered.
