Abstract :
The article looks at how engineers can be trained in decision making. It provides a practical four-step approach to the decision making process. The first step is to know what has to be decided. Then the options or alternatives available must be set out. The third step is to obtain the information needed to make the decision and know what criteria to use to select the relevant information. Finally, the decision is made. The article points out that one reason that engineers are uncomfortable making decisions is fear of making a "bad" decision. However, the more one takes responsibility and acts decisively, the more one will take control of one\´s life.
