Abstract
The paper reports on recovery processes of vacuum gaps after 50 Hz sinusoidal current zero. We used a vacuum interrupter with a copper button electrode, The measured recovery time was 60, 76, 100 ¿s for currents of 3, 6, and 8 kA, respectively. The theoretical analysis matches the experimental result to a certain extent. The conclusion is that the recovery time depends strongly on the arcing state and the whole heat effect of the half cycle current wave.
