Abstract :
The US standard for metal oxide arresters was published in 1987. The IEC standard is expected to be published in 1991 or 1992. Both standards are good, but are different in ways which can cause confusion and possibly misapplication. The author compares the two standards to reduce confusion and prevent misapplication and consequent system problems
