Abstract :
The authors use a physical arc model to compare the switching behaviors of circuit breakers in a direct and two synthetic test circuits with a computer program. It was found that not only the shape of the transient recovery voltage, but also the topology of the electrical network that supplies the transient recovery voltage after current interruption is of importance in terms of the interrupting capability of SF6 and air-blast circuit breakers
