Abstract :
This paper presents a new lock detector method for symbol timing recovery, which operates in QPSK and BPSK receivers. The lock detector requires only two samples per symbol, which coincide with those required for Gardner timing error detector. Performance analysis shows that it works well in AWGN and not severe multipath channels. Moreover, its application for QAM receivers is also investigated.
