Abstract :
The Latter theoretically analyses the spectral lineshape deformation of an optical carrier wave due to the phase noise created through the Kerr effect by amplified spontaneous emission noise. It is found that both tails of the resulting field spectrum are significantly enhanced over hundreds of gigahertz, and this deformation degrades both coherent and direct detection performance.
