Abstract :
Shakers used in modern head gimbal assembly (HGA) resonance testers need to be linear, repeatable, and with minimal out-of-plane movements up to several tens of kilohertz. The authors investigate the suitability of shear-mode piezo actuators for the task. These compact devices also double up as sensors for HGA dynamics testing.
