Abstract
Metal-semiconductor-metal photodiodes (MSM) are new class of photodetectors that offer an attractive alternative to conventional photodiodes. The advantage and disadvantages of MSM are discussed. MSM allow very large area detectors to facilitate coupling to optical fibres without degrading the bandwidth
