Abstract
The write-ability is one of critical issues for achieving ultra-high recording areal density in magnetic disc storage technology. Usually an excellent overwrite (OVW) performance has to be guaranteed for two cases, namely, the case where a low linear density background pattern is overwritten by a high linear density data pattern, and the reverse case. In this work, a generalized analysis is given for describing the spectra of the readback signals in reverse overwrite process, where a high linear density background pattern is overwritten by a low linear density data pattern. It was found that our quantitative analysis was indeed consistent with experimental results.
