Abstract :
The frequency dependence of the piezomagnetic strain coefficient (g33) has been investigated through Plane Wave Model characterisation of a Terfenol-D sample. It is found to have a frequency dependence of 1/√ω with a corresponding frequency dependent loss term. It is proposed that this frequency dependence in g33 is a consequence of the mechanical defects in the material which affect the magnetic properties of the material through the magnetomechanical coupling k33
