Abstract :
An electric drill stem telemetry link with nonzero resistance is analyzed using a transmission line model. Attenuation and bandwidth are found to differ significantly from these corresponding to a perfectly conducting drill stem. The skin effect is found to reduce the channel bandwidth significantly.
