Abstract :
The nature of bats´ acoustic imaging, which combines time and frequency-domain operations in a variety of ways, is discussed. A description is given of a simulated sonar receiver based on the brown bat´s auditory system. Algorithms that mix time and frequency-domain techniques to reconstruct target shape from echoes have been tested successfully in a computer, and work is in progress to develop a VLSI chip capable of real-time operation with these algorithms.<>
