Abstract :
The armature current of a dc motor, supplied by an ac-dc converter, becomes discontinuous at reduced loads, and the drive performance is profoundly modified. The behavior of the drive in the discontinuous current mode can be best explained by an increase of the converter internal resistance. The characteristics of the proposed model are studied, and its validity confirmed by experimental results. Several useful applications of the model are also suggested.
