            Abstract :
Machine control systems in 1985 must provide integrated control from the fastest loops of a particular machine or unit operation to strategic planning for several lines in a plant. The sensible format for this broad spectrum of integrated control is a functional hierarchy implemented with distributed hardware. Machine control systems for 1985 are outlined in a functional manner. Machine-oriented processes in 1985 are introduced, and corresponding control systems are expanded.
