  • Abstract
The erosion of electrodes during an electric discharge in a liquid dielectric medium has been studied by measuring weight loss. It has been shown that, although the amount of material removed from the anode and the cathode varies appreciably with several operating parameters, the total weight of metal removed from both is practically constant. A physical interpretation of this property is proposed which may lead to a better understanding of the processes of material removal and thereby improve the operating conditions of electroeroding machines in particular by transferring the erosion process from the tool to the work piece.
