Abstract
The magnetostriction of amorphous Pr0.2 (Fe1-x Cox )0.8 alloys (0 ¿ x ¿ 0.6) and Pry (Fe0.8 Co0.2 ) à (Si0.43 B0.57 ) à (0.7 ¿ x ¿ 0.85, 0.15 ¿ y ¿ 0.3, 0 ¿ z ¿ 0.3) alloys was measured in the temperature range from 77 to 400°K. The value of the magnetostriction ¿ (¿=(2/3) [¿1/1)¿ -(¿l/l)¿ ]) for Pr0.2 (Fe1-x Cox )0.8 exhibits a maximum at x=0.2; it is about 760 à 10¿6 at 77°K and 260 à 10¿6 at room temperature. The temperature dependence of the magnetostriction is discussed in terms of the single-ion model.
