  • Abstract
Independent contracting has become a respected professional undertaking. No longer is it a euphemism to describe interim pursuits between periods of full-time employment. For the working professional, independent contracting can fill a career completely, expanding opportunities, and actually improving employment security. For the professional organization, it is a useful tool that can help balance staff and workload. For each, however, it carries a price and a new set of expectations. Independent contracting increases the choices available to bring knowledge and other intellectual capital into an organisation. This paper discusses the application of independent contracting, acquiring intellectual capital, and how to make independent contracting work.
