Abstract
The authors´ goal is to present a reasonably simple, composed model with two thermal time constants which avoid some of the inconsistencies of single time constant models currently used. The proposed model is compared with the most common models and is shown to reach more accurate arc simulations. One application example is used to show the differences between two models and how a model can help in the evaluation of arc self-extinction limits. These limits are important for proper choice of compensation reactors, single-phase successful operation, neutral grounding criteria, protection selection, and insulation coordination
