Abstract :
This article discusses the IEEE 841-2001, API 541 4th edition, and API 547 standards for AC induction motor developed by the petrochemical industry. This article will help to identify which of the three standards are most appropriate for a particular application and a detailed comparison of the three standards are presented. All three standards provide specific and verifiable requirement that enable a user to purchase motors for most applications that will yield increased reliability over standard or severe duty motors.
