Abstract :
When vicalloy wire (40 Fe-50 Co-10 V) is twisted, the outer areas in the wire, which undergo great stress as a result of twisting, take on a smaller coercivity. The pulse-inducing characteristics and domain wall propagation of such compound magnetic wire are described. It was found that the pulse voltage induced by large Barkhausen jumps is not proportional to the value of (H-H0), where H is the critical field of domain nucleation at flux reversal and H0 is the critical field of domain wall displacement. Moreover, H is decreased by applying a torsional stress to the wire.
