Abstract :
This paper deals with the characteristics of a thin disk-shaped transformer utilizing amorphous magnetic fiber, designed for an artificial heart system. The transformer can be applied to the patient with the primary coil placed on the surface of the body and the secondary coil implanted subcutaneously. There was little leakage flux behind the coils and relatively small change in output power with relative coil displacement. The system could transmit over 100 W of electric power. When transmitting 20 W, the temperature rise of the secondary coil was about 7.5°C, and efficiency was about 90%.
