Abstract :
The Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) beam inhibit system provides a very rapid means of turning off the accelerator beam in the event of a spill. The maximum time required to turn off is approximately 9 ¿s, of which 5 ¿s are due to transmission line delay. The beam inhibit system (and the beam spill detectors) is distributed along the entire length of the accelerator. The system has been operating successfully for more than eight months in the portion of the accelerator that is in use.
