Abstract
The authors estimated the damping constants of domain propagation due to eddy currents and spin relaxation in Fe-Si-B amorphous magnetostrictive wire. The damping constant in the outer shell of the wire was about 57% of the total damping constant. Domains at the wire surface before and after Large Barkhausen discontinuities were observed. It was concluded that this remarkably large damping in the outer shell is caused by a magnetic interaction between the core and the shell which takes place during propagation of a domain wall in the core.
