Abstract :
The magnetooptic Kerr effect and electric resistance of Fe deposited on fused quartz substrates were observed during ultra-high vacuum deposition. Resistance measurements show that Fe forms islands on the quartz substrates, and that films with such an island morphology turn into continuous films at about 115 Ã
thickness at room temperature. The magnetooptic Kerr effect is observable from a thickness of 16 Ã
, and a remanence magnetization appears from 21 Ã
.
