Abstract :
The magnetooptic Kerr effect and electric resistance of Fe deposited on fused quartz substrates were observed during ultra-high vacuum deposition. Resistance measurements show that Fe forms islands on the quartz substrates, and that films with such an island morphology turn into continuous films at about 115 Ã… thickness at room temperature. The magnetooptic Kerr effect is observable from a thickness of 16 Ã…, and a remanence magnetization appears from 21 Ã….
