Abstract :
We utilized two spiral coils with amorphous magnetic fibers for transcutaneous power transmission to an implantable artificial heart which is electrically actuated. Rises in temperature occurring during power transmission constitutes a serious obstacle to practical application. The operation of the transmitting coils is analyzed using an equivalent circuit, and the quantity of magnetic flux flowing in the amorphous fibers is discussed. The results were employed in the design of thinner transmitting coils.
