Abstract :
The authors have demonstrated 10 Gbit/s, 285 km repeaterless optical transmission using an EDF preamplifier with a low noise figure of 4.1 dB and using a distributed Raman amplification. A back-to-back receiver sensitivity of -38.5 dBm (111 photon/bit) at a connector input of the receiver was achieved at 10-9 BER
