Abstract :
Soft magnetic ferrites now in use as magnetic devices suffer from one defect, a saturation magnetization which is considerably lower than that of metallic soft magnetic materials. The present authors found that Mn-Zn ferrite single crystals containing about 0.05 mol % Er2O3 have an improved saturation magnetization (¿s) and relative permeability (¿´r). It is thought that the effect of the addition of Er2O3 on the magnetic properties is closely related to the increase in the saturation magnetic moment resulting when Er is dissolved into Mn-Zn ferrite. Mn-Zn ferrite containing Er2O3 is expected to prove useful as a magnetic head material.
