Abstract :
The proposed noncontact magnetic gearr baseds on permanent magnets has many performance characteristics which are effective for eliminating gear noise and vibration. Because a magnetic gear is an oil-free machine element, it is suitable for use in clean rooms and in vacuum. However, magnetic gears suffer from a tendency to slip under high-speed startup. In order to make practical use of magnetic gears possible, this paper deals with methods of high-speed startup enabling direct connection to a driving motor. It was found that a trial magnetic gear could be started at a high speed of 1500 rpm by utilizing an eddy current effect.
