Abstract :
The contribution of rain to amplitude scintillation on satellite downlinks is examined using concurrent measurements of raindrop size distribution (DSD) by a distrometer, and scintillation by a satellite beacon receiver. It is shown that significant DSD fluctuations occur, causing amplitude scintillation which is largest on horizontally polarised signals
