Abstract
A novel method for the analysis of the effectiveness of a UPFC for transient stability enhancement is presented. The analysis shows that the maximum power transfer, Pe max for line compensation by the UPFC can be written in the general form of Pe max=Pmax/(1-k1-k2) where Pmax is the maximum power transfer for the uncompensated line, and k1 and k2 are the degrees of compensation offered by the series and shunt branches of the UPFC, respectively.
