Title :
Discussion on "The manufacture of a connecting rod", by J.R. Standring, at the London Section of the Institution
Abstract :
MR. YOUNG : I understand those holes in the connecting rod are punched. How much metal do you take out? MR. STANDRING : The large end only is punched. The amount of material of the finished bore is two inches, and at an estimate> I should think the bore is about If-in. or l|-in. MR. YOUNG : Do you find any stress on the big end when you are boring and facing, and do you have to reset? MR. STANDRING : No, we have no resetting at all¿as a matter of fact, the amount of error on one occasion was 4,000th of an inch.
