Abstract :
How the output polarisation of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) can be controlled by the spin polarisation of the electrons in the active region is analysed. The main result is that a spin controlled VCSEL is feasible under realistic device conditions, i.e. at room temperature and for continuous wave operation.
