Abstract :
Transverse mode control by using temperature-profile control in VCSELs with a large active area of more than 10 μm diameter is demonstrated. From spectrum measurement, higher-order mode suppression was observed as power increased for a heater introduced for temperature-profile control. The far-field pattern without heating had two peaks and it changed to a Gaussian shape with heating.
