Abstract :
Thyristor controlled chopper circuit is used on the rotor side for the speed control of slipring induction motor drive. This control scheme provides contactless and continuous variation of rotor resistance. A thorough analysis of the steady state performance of the system is provided for the following cases: 1. Without filter on the rotor side 2. With 1st order filter on the rotor side 3. With 2nd order filter on the rotor side Experimental results are given for open loop and closed loop control scheme with speed and current feed-back. Part I deals with the open-loop system and the design and performance of the closed-loop system is given in Part II.
