Abstract :
This paper describes a novel technique for driving a universal motor such as a wound-rotor type induction motor or a torque synchro as a step motor. The driving circuit consists of digital phase-modulators and flip-flop trains. This type of step motor holds the following advantages: 1) a wide range of variation in rotating angle to each input pulse is easily achieved, 2) heat loss at light load is minimal, and 3) a high-power step motor can be realized.
